Prince was born on 7th June 1958. He was widely regarded as one of the greatest musicians of a generation, and incorporated a variety of genres into his music, from rock to hip hop, funk and pop. Not only did Prince have huge hits of his own, including Purple Rain and When Doves Cry, he also wrote songs for other artists. He famously wrote Nothing Compares 2 U by Sinead O’Connor and Manic Monday by The Bangles.

Fun fact: Prince was a vegetarian for most of his life, and even had a ban on eating meat at his estate Paisley Park.

If anyone wanted a hamburger for lunch, you had to leave the campus to do it — and still do [following his death],” Paisley Park tour operations manager Mitch Maguire said.

Alice Huyler Ramsey became the first woman to drive across the United States. She started the trip on June 9th 1909, and took a close friend and two of her sisters-in-law. The group used maps that were provided by the American Automobile Association to navigate their way around the country. They began their 3800 mile journey from New York and traveled to California. The trip across the country took 59 days, and most of the way was unpaved. Ramsey performed repairs to the car herself, changing 11 tyres, cleaning spark plugs and repairing a broken brake pedal.
